Daily Reflections on the Life of Christ

The Story Behind the Book

My wife and I have been long-time members of Henderson Hills Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma. The mission statement is "to love Jesus and live sent." At HHBC, we believe that every Christian should be living missionally -- that is making disciples -- wherever we go and whatever we are doing. The motivation for "living sent" is our love for Jesus, who He is and what He's done for us.

In 2025, our staff developed a 90-day initiative to lead church members to love Jesus more. One idea was a Bible reading plan covering His life and ministry. Rather than "reinvent the wheel," our Executive Pastor, Jimmy Quinn, asked to use deovtions from The Daily Reflections for the One Year Chronological New Testament (2023). I was happy to help.

Thanks to Kyrstal Harlow, our Communications Director, who designed an email template, I scheduled a daily devotion to be emailed to partipants each morning from April 21 to August 16 (118 days). During this time, the Lord gave me the idea to put these devotions in a book.

I will admit, the full version of The Daily Reflections (NT) can be intimidating, since it's 365 days long. This shorter version, covering the gospels (125 days), might encourage more people to get into the Bible. Each devotion (only two short pages) includes passages to read from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and/or John, a concise summary of the reading, as well as introspective questions and personal challenges. May you, too, be encouraged to love Jesus and live sent.
